Lily Wachowski was at today's Rally for Trans Visibility in Chicago. Not as a speaker, just in the crowd. I see her at most of the trans/queer protests I attend.

Asexuality has 0 to do with whether or not someone likes sex. There are people of all sexualities that don't enjoy sex and their lives are also impacted in similar ways, and there are asexuals that do like or tolerate sex. It's about sexual attraction.

And also, people very much do not like when someone else doesn't like or have sex or has no interest in it. Sex is seen as a thing that makes you human and by not being interested we are seen as not human and equated to robots and plants, and there are people that harm us with the justification that we're lesser so it's fine.

It's weird that we don't like or want sex. We are systemically denied things the same way gay couples are and have been in the past if people find out; people won't sell houses to people they don't think will create a family.

We are seen as unnatural even in communities and cultures where sex is something you should abstain from and only do for procreation because you are still expected to do it, and not having any temptation is cheating. I'm looking at namely Christian circles there.

People think it's wrong. They think it's a mental illness and something that needs to be corrected. It is still in the DSMV that asexuality should be treated and fixed just like homosexuality when it was listed as a mental illness, and that was finally removed in the DSMV.

Impotence and inability to perform sex is a potential way to annul a marriage. If we're in a relationship and we don't perform sex enough to our partner's preference we're seen as villains and abusers and have in the eyes of others lost our right to bodily autonomy and consent. My own mother has told me there's no such thing as a good relationship with no sex.

I myself have been threatened with corrective rape for being asexual. I know it's a thing that many asexuals experience.

And no one takes any of our pain seriously. We're mocked for being sexless freaks and virgins, children that don't know anything because don't like or haven't had sex. I've been told my opinion doesn't count because at that point I had never had an orgasm. I was in my early 20s and the sex i did have apparently didn't count.

You don't see the myriad of ways asexuals are oppressed negate you aren't one, and even other sexual queer people will shit on us too because they also think we're weird sexless freaks and don't see how our struggles are connected.

As for it making us gay, it does and it doesn't. We're absolutely queer, but when gay becomes the umbrella used as short hand for not-straight then yes we are also gay. We can still be romantically attracted to the same gender or multiple genders, or feel some other kind of attraction or preference for them.

Sex Stance is how much a person wants to have sex.

I made this chart a while back to encompass the list. Here is the original post with the credits:

Anyway, Sex stance is talked about a lot in the ace community, but it doesn't make you ace, though some people do discover the lack of sexual attraction through sex stance first, so I won't totally discount finding it through that method.

Sexual acts stance and sex stance and touch stance belong to all people, but since it's frequent language with ace and aro spec, I included them in the chart. (Romance stance counts too)

But not all Aces are Apothisexual.

(Zedsexuals aren't ace, but some ace fluxes do sometimes present as allo some of the time, so I had to include it to clarify ace fluxes).

But one of my gynecologists was super shocked when I said I hadn't had sex in more than ten years AND assumed I was het right out of the gate, then tried to shame me for it.

It's not just everyday people, but generally, people will go out of their way to stigmatize being ace, even if you're grey ace, or talk about cures.

And also, I have to say, I went on medicine not related to aceness or libido that spiked my libido shortly, and no, it didn't "cure" my aceness. So a lot of people think that aces automatically have no libido either. That's also not the case. Libido is independent also of asexuality. I know some aces that said they had a higher libido, but still were ace.

And when a character, like Jughead isn't paired up, when in the comics he was ace, people INSIST on pairing the character up.

So allonormative is everywhere. No one can leave Sherlock Holmes to be alone and be asexual probably homoromantic? They MUST cram Irene Adler to be a romantic interest.

And when people do point out traits of aceness, people try to justify it by saying weird crap about aces, like a person can't be ace if they've been abused, or *gasp* No one from Asia can be ace, and all of these other weird associations.

But truly all you need to have is limited, conditional or no sexual attraction. That's it. It's not a personality trait. It's not anything else.

Meh, this is why I'm working on a video going over the chart and explaining it because people flipped out once seeing allosexual listed, but then I can't explain ace jump, etc well. And BTW, ace jump absolutely belongs to the ace spectrum. (Screw the people who say they don't count). Also screw the people who want to kick out the orchidsexuals too and all microlabels.
