My Roman Empire is the librarian at my old school who was so kind to everybody despite them making so much noise in the library. He told me stories and recommended me books, and he said that I was smart and that I could do anything I wanted to.
My Roman empire is the library at my old school, it had so many queer books, and it's not even legal to be queer where I'm from, but I learnt so much from those books, and I still reread some of them today.
My Roman empire is going to the library with a friend after school at least twice a week to return books and borrow new ones, and smiling and greeting the librarians on the way out.
My Roman empire is reading books and loving reading even more because of the library and that one librarian, and learning more about queerness because of the gay books in the library. They even had a book with a transfem mc. By a nigerian nonbinary author.
I know that he doesnt have a tumblr, and will probably not ever see this, but thank you mr librarian. And sorry for never remembering your name even though you knew mine. I might not remember your name but I remember everything you've done for me. Not sure if I'll ever find a library or librarian I love that much ever again.
P.S. I still have some of the books from there and I lost one (it was my favourite out of the lot and one of my favourite books ever) (it's called carry on by rainbow rowell. Its gay) anyway I'm sorry I never returned them. And I'm sorry I lost one.
