no more tyranny of the experienced moment

ok i am going to be brave tomrrow and ask my friend whose climbing gym membership got me into yoga class for free a few weeks ago whether that's a sustainable thing for me to come along to frequently and/or just pay the nonmember fee at the door a few times. i should really just find a different yoga class that isn't gated on climbing gym membership but this one 1. didn't make me miserable by asking me to meditate 2. was the right level of difficulty for me, a worm whose only skill is being kind of ok at pigeon pose 3. has my fwiends in it sometimes and will therefore cause me to be motivated to actually attend/have a strong impetus to leave work for it

'90s Trek had the ideal budget for a Star Trek show. TOS had no money and had to make do with an ice cream cone glued to a dog. Disco has too much money and you can tell they don't have to control themselves at all. the happy medium is a show that overspent on sticking tubes to a guy last week so this week there's something creepy and mostly invisible happening in the same room we always go to

ok well. none of it is insupportable. if [] doesn't take the job and keeps looking here that'll be ok bc theres ten billion things here and they have interim things they could do to not be unemployed and who knows maybe the money for [original original job] will magically appear and everything will be perfect and beautiful. if [] takes the job in redacted and hates it they'll be able to pivot without it screwing anything up majorly and we can align our decision timelines better and jobsearch jointly next year. if [] takes the job and really likes it that'll be a bit annoying for me and also we'll be living on opposite sides of the country for like a year but there's nonzero options in redacted and i can probably come up with a combination of labs that would be doing work i care about.

love seeing all those list challenges for people's favorite movies. i could not scrape together 50 movies I've seen in my twenty-six years if you gave me $1,500 and a week to do it

Dr. Liu also said she "believes the university [cancelled her presentation] out of fear of being pressured by the Donald Trump administration" and that it speaks to the “climate of fear” universities in the U.S. are now living under in which they preemptively “self-censor” themselves to avoid retaliation. Supposed "antisemitism" is only the excuse.
