Hi, I'm UI (He/Him)! I'm a writer and sometimes artist looking to engage with fellow fans. I'm pansexual and occaissionally crossdress. Bigots, please piss up a rope.

Got curious

https://neosciencehub.com/man-spends-93-days-under-the-atlantic-sea-becoming-10-years-younger/

For a groundbreaking investigation, retired navy commander Joseph Dituri was required to submerge himself for more than three months. Researchers sought to understand the impact of submerged life in a pressurised environment on the human body. And guess what? After spending more than three months submerged in the Atlantic Ocean, scientists were astounded to discover that Dituri had become “ten years younger” when he emerged from his little pod.

Following diagnostic evaluations, it was discovered that Dituri’s telomeres—the DNA caps at the ends of chromosomes that normally shorten with age—had grown 20% longer than they had three months prior.

In addition, his stem cell count had increased and his general health had undergone a dramatic metamorphosis. Dituri also reported better-quality sleep. His inflammatory indicators decreased by half, and his cholesterol plummeted by 72 points. According to medical professionals, the underwater pressure—which is recognized to have several health benefits—caused these alterations. Dituri subsequently discussed the need for these kinds of encounters.

“One of these locations that are isolated from outside activities is what you need. The British newspaper Daily Mirror cited him as stating, “Send people down here for a two-week vacation, where they can get their feet scrubbed, relax, and experience the benefit of hyperbaric medicine.” He said that his metabolism had also significantly improved.

worlds slowest fanfic author tries really really hard

everyone in the notes we are all holding hands. everyone who hasnt worked on a wip in weeks or months or years, its okay. we are going slow but we are going

my crack team of internet addled 16-24 year olds have been working day and night to invent a belief system that is near identical to that of the average white father in the 1950s. No its ok we are using words that are newer and also dumber.

This opening completely altered my brain chemistry as a kid and I've never been the same since.

it's so BOUNCY and FUN, even without words you can tell what moves each Pokemon is uses (Girafargig going for a Stomp, Butterfree using Sleep Powder/Gust) as well as visually showing how Quagsire is immune to electricity so Pikachu has to improvise, the personality/attitudes of each Pokemon really shines (Cyndaquil kinda just yawning like "OK, I'm awake, let's go" before immediately being able to shove off the Mankey, and then letting loose a big Flamethrower like it's nothing, just so casual), this is just a Battle for fun they aren't trying to knock out each other's entire teams so Ash and Lisa are happy to just have a tie at the end, the Pokemon use the environment of the playground as they Battle, both Trainers cheer and cuddle with their Pokemon through it all... it really is BEAUTIFUL

Just to add on to this sentiment, Lisa's not exactly a major character in the film right? This battle happens with her just kinda crossing paths with Ash and co, and then she leads them to the town where all the eventful stuff is actually happening. And yet despite that, they take the time here to clearly show her own attitude and that she has her own relationships with her pokemon. The specific ways she gets excited when they're doing well and disappointed when they lose their part of the fight, it really gives the impression that she's someone with just as full and eventful a journey as Ash has had.

I would dearly love for more people to be capable of differentiating between public risk and personal risk.

Examples: drinking is a personal risk. Drinking and driving is a public risk. Going scuba diving is a personal risk. Running a scuba shop with faulty equipment is a public risk. Riding a bicycle without a helmet is a personal risk. Not maintaining public transport safety standards is a public risk. Foraging for mushrooms is a personal risk. Advertising a mushroom identification app that uses shoddy AI is a public risk. Elective surgery is a personal risk. Not wearing a mask in a doctor's waiting room when you are sick with a contagious illness is a public risk.

I could go on just about forever here. But it's a really important distinction and it drives me nuts when they get conflated, and it's so common.

"Your Liberty To Swing Your Fist Ends Just Where My Nose Begins"

every day i think about how wild vaporeon would live mostly in the water but come to shore to have their pups (eevee), and then would probably groom their pups in a special way to trap air bubbles in their soft fur to make them more bouyant so they can float unaided on the water. and then as soon as the eevee have control of their little legs they're being taught how to swim, so you could come to a lake at a certain time of year ans see a vaporeon swimming around with a tiny soaked eevee paddling along behind it like

hey @molabuddy this was such a cute mental image that wanted to try and draw it :D

“Appeal to a wider audience” is corporate lingo for “strip more themes from a piece of media so it’s safer and more sanitized for investors”

I struck a nerve in the billionaire fandom with this one

Trump is going to lift those tariffs btw. Like we're gonna feel it and it'll suck, and then he will lift them, and things will improve, and people won't realize that things were still better before he put them in place at all, and he will claim credit for making everything better even though things are still worse than when he started. Because of him. Because he made them worse.

So you gotta pinky promise me you're not gonna let yourself or anyone you know fall for that shit.

Scrolled past this agakn and just can't get over how much I love it. We need to make things beautiful again and this is such a wonderful example. The beadwork on the wires of a utitarian object, contrasted with the grey concrete.

I've seen this photo and similar ones online for years, and with pretty much every nation where rug weaving is still practiced claiming it was an example of their handiwork, so I did a bit of sleuthing and it turns out the photo is from Thailand!

Quoting from the "Share knowledge of electrical systems - control cabinets - MDB cabinets - PLC control systems" Facebook page (Google translated, sorry):

"In daily life, for the picture of wires in the house that must be wired to various points and use wire clips to lock the wires in place, which does not require many steps. It is probably an image that we are used to seeing. But for the electrician's work as shown in the picture, it is a unique and intricate wire installation. This is... the science and art of wiring inside the building that creates intricate and beautiful patterns. I didn't think that wire clipping could play with patterns like this. It is another story that creates surprise for those who see it. When the electrician with great skills wires using wire ties to various devices by securing the wires to the walls or ceilings of the building with wire ties at every distance, it is like a former artist. Some people make woven patterns, OTOP mat weaving patterns, yantra patterns, Phra Thep Phanom patterns, various lotus patterns, etc. It depends on your imagination. It is considered a creative idea. It also creates good value for the work. Therefore, I would like to commend the technician's effort and patience. Then you can see the work as seen in the picture.

The science and art of wiring of the previous generation of technicians is wiring with VAF type wires that require the method of nailing wires to attach to the wall, cement or wood to make it look beautiful.

Which is different from the new generation of wiring that often uses the method of wiring in pipes embedded in the wall, in pipes on the exposed wall or wiring in various types of electrical wire storage trays using THW type wires and wires for various types of pipes, NYY wires, VCT wires, etc., which also gives another type of beauty that is very popular today. The wiring of the pipes must take into account the neatness and beauty, but must not neglect the details, specifications of the correct pipe and wire sizes at all times.

As for the old wiring method "clipping" which is still popular with technicians and some electricity users

The method of wiring by using clips to attach to the wall has various methods of wiring, emphasizing simple wiring, wiring that emphasizes neat wiring, making it beautiful, and there is also wiring that emphasizes wiring in a beautiful pattern using wire clips to tie it beautifully in the desired pattern. It is considered a wiring that truly relies on science and art. This type of work is often the work of A technician with long experience Because they have to plan the wire pattern, place the clips, and run the wires to get the beautiful pattern as desired. Otherwise, the work will not come out beautifully. For the patterns that are often used to assemble on the electrical wires

They are usually auspicious words, surnames, symbols, various Thai patterns. When the wire clips are placed in the right place, the pattern that appears will be beautiful, showing status, showing the relationship, such as the pattern written as a surname.

These works are works that show the art and experience of the technician as well. To make beautiful wire clips on the electrical wires, the technician must first lay out the outline to make that pattern, then gradually tie the wires one by one until it is complete as desired."

And I also found the OG pics!

Humans are capable of creating the most beautiful things from the most utilitarian means, and the fact that everyday art this isn't common practice everywhere makes me want to invent a time machine just so I could go back and kill the first person who came up with minimalism.

HEROIC POSTER OF THE DAY!

Many thanks for finding the source on this, as you can see I grabbed it from a Facebook post where it had no attribution of any kind (OP didn't know either)

No problem! This happens all the time on the internet, unfortunately. It looks like this one has been bouncing around for four years, primarily as unattributed reposts. Especially when people start adding memetic labels and captions it's natural to assume that somebody along the way was referring to the original context!

seeing all the 14-17 y/o queer kids who don’t know what v for vendetta is…. u mean the blockbuster film written by two trans women about a masked vigilante who decides to singlehandedly take down a fascist alternate version of england set in the distant year of 2020… and his driving force was getting justice for a lesbian who he never met but whose diary he found, who was separated from her wife before being killed by said fascist gov…. and it stars natalie portman…. okay

the movie is great, with amazing acting:

and the original graphic novel is phenomenal:

I highly recommend them both

and they’ve never been more relevant

“People shouldn’t be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.”

There’s strong subtext that V is a trans man and A)the lesbian from the diary or B)her wife.

frankly I prefer the movie over the comic, for three reasons:

1) lewis prothero as a rush limbaugh/glenn beck/bill o’reilly type is both more applicable and way funnier than a 1940s radio propagandist

2) it has stephen fry as gordon detriech, and makes him explicitly gay and pretending to be attracted to evey as part of being closeted than actually attracted to evey and having sex with her while she hides in his home.

3) the movie came out in 2005; that is, only four years after 9/11, while the Iraq war was still in full swing, and while xenophobia and Islamophobia were not just acceptable, but tacitly encouraged by the administration at the time. which makes the following exchange even more poignant and sweet:

Evey: [seeing a book in a glass display case] What is that? Gordon: It’s a copy of the Qur’an, 14th century. Evey: [shocked] Are you a Muslim? Gordon: No, I’m in television. Evey: But why would you keep it? Gordon: I don’t have to be a Muslim to find the images beautiful or its poetry moving.

just… the easy acceptance of it. the idea that a religion that he doesn’t believe in and that has been explicitly outlawed in-universe is a source of beauty. I’m not Muslim, either, but that particular moment really stuck with me emotionally.

Love this movie

“…I remember how different became dangerous. I still don’t understand it, why they hate us so much. They took Ruth while she was out buying food. I’ve never cried so hard in my life. It wasn’t long till they came for me.

It seems strange that my life should end in such a terrible place, but for three years, I had roses, and apologize to no one.

I shall die here. Every inch of me shall perish. Every inch, but one. An Inch, it is small and it is fragile, but it is the only thing in the world worth having. We must never lose it or give it away. We must never let them take it from us.

I hope that whoever you are, you escape this place. I hope that the world turns and that things get better. But what I hope most of all is that you understand what I mean when I tell you that even though I do not know you, and even though I may never meet you, laugh with you, cry with you, or kiss you. I love you. With all my heart, I love you. -Valerie”

SOBBING

Thi movie changed me so much. So so much.

Skeletor has forever destroyed our ability to come up with voices for skeleton characters.

this is like saying NASA has forever destroyed our ability to wonder what it's like on the moon. like we can still use our powers of imagination if we want to but the question's pretty much fucking settled.
