Modern!au Bertholdt headcanon:
Bertholdt is autistic.
He is really sensitive to pressure changes, especially sudden ones. His sinuses start acting up: stuffy nose, but only the right nostril, clogged ears, pressure headache, etc. He finds that what really helps is the steam from a hot cup of peppermint tea. So, he'll boil some water and then steep a peppermint tea bag and hold the cup to his face, letting the steam do its thing. Everything clears up in a matter of minutes, and he feels much better. He doesn't always drink the tea, though.
(Yes, I'm projecting because it frustrates me sm and I only recently began using the steaming peppermint tea method bc only recently have I figured out that it's a sensitivity to pressure and not allergies!)
There are more, yes, but I need you all to be aware that Reiner is his safe person when they're out and about. He often has sunglasses and earplugs on him if Bert doesn't.
(I can not function without my safe person when I'm out and about, especially unmasked.)
(I am also learning that it's okay to accommodate my needs so that I can be comfortable going through life as an autistic individual. Especially since I went about my whole life, well, most of it anyway, believing I was just slow and a step behind everyone. Not academically, though. It was, and still is, socially.)

People don’t understand the concept of liking two characters’ relationship in multiple contexts. They can be lovers in one setting and just friends in another, their dynamic doesn’t have to be consistent in every piece of art I make.
I know it's not just me who thinks Bertholdt is definitely more stronger than Reiner 🤷🏻♂️
I feel like he's so much more stronger than Reiner, both mentally and physically, I MEAN COME ON HE'S LITERALLY 6'4 💔, i feel like he just mostly held back alot during training to not attract that much attention on him and also, he's like very shy.
Even Keith Shadis said he has potential but he just lack the aggression and the initiave to make a decision by himself. I truly believe if he wasn't as timid as he was, he would've took the number two spot in the cadet corps 🙏🏻, also he literally was trusted to hold the power of the colossal titan? So i think that speaks for itself 🙂↕️
We saw a glimpse of how strong he was in the RTS Arc, where he was left to make all the decision by himself, AND WE CAN SEE HOW STRONG AND SKILLED HE TRULY WAS. He literally DODGED Mikasa's surprise attack from behind AND HE MANAGED TO KICK HER TOO!!! Like he was strong enough to dodge and hurt an ACKERMAN, and he only injured his ear in the process. Even Mikasa was shocked with Bertholdt's strength because she has actually never seen him in his full potential.
