Hi Folks,

As you might have read in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel over the last few days, the cruel immigration policies of the Trump administration are slowly but surely coming to Wisconsin.

First, a Milwaukee-area woman named Ma Yang was deported to Laos even though she has never been there and doesn't speak the language, and is seemingly the first person America has deported to that country in years.

Second, we learned that the Journal Sentinel recently surveyed all 72 Wisconsin County Sheriffs asking questions about their willingness to cooperate with ICE to deport immigrants, which is part of Trump's Fascist playbook. Here are a few excerpts from the article.

"The Washington and Winnebago sheriffs offices, for example, joined an ICE program last week that will allow deputies to hold suspected noncitizens in jail up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released. A third agency — Oneida County Sheriff’s Office — is considering it, the sheriff told reporters.'"

"The majority — 12 of the 16 — said they would not report crime victims or crime witnesses who are undocumented to ICE....Crawford County and Burnett County said they would."

"Of the sheriff's offices that answered in some form, Burnett County appears to be the most cooperative with ICE, answering yes to every type of cooperation. That includes reporting crime victims to ICE if they are not legally allowed to be in the U.S., asking about immigration status at traffic stops, and sharing the names of noncitizens booked into the jail."

So what would a resistance movement designed to protect Wisconsin's most vulnerable and throw sand in the gears of encroaching Fascism do with Washington County's Martin Shulteis, Winnebago County's John Matz, Oneida County's Grady Hartmann, Crawford County's Dale McCullick, Burnett County's Tracy Finch-- the 5 Wisconsin Sheriff's most willing to carry out Trump's cruel immigration policies and follow his Fascist playbook?

Make their lives miserable, of course.

You'll find out in a week how we did that, but I'm not going to mention it today to maintain an element of surprise. I do know it will take volunteers from these five counties to pull it off--Washington, Winnebago, Oneida, Crawford, and Burnett.

If you hate Fascist bullies and live in these counties, here's the link to volunteer.

Next up, because I'm following the oft-mentioned Harvard Kennedy School blueprint for a resistance movement called "Pro Democracy Organizing Against Autocracy in the United States," I've brought together a small group of senior Wisconsin political consultants and organizers to "power map" the state of Wisconsin. "Power mapping," in layman's terms, is identifying who in our state:

--will most likely carry out Trump’s politics of retribution.

--will ultimately be delegated authority by Trump/Musk to hurt minorities, immigrants, women, non-Christians, the vulnerable, and progressives.

--are being paid to lie to voters to scare, confuse, and intimidate them.

One hate group that fits this description to a "T" is called "Mom's for Liberty." According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, "Mom's for Liberty is a far-right organization that engages in anti-student inclusion activities and self-identifies as part of the modern parental rights movement. ...they oppose LGBTQ+ and racially inclusive school curriculum, and has advocated books bans."

Seeing as most every progressive organization in the state is focused on the very important task of ensuring that Wisconsin's Supreme Court stays progressive by electing Susan Crawford on April 1, there's virtually nobody paying attention to this hate group's attempt to infiltrate school and county boards around the state by winning elections in a two weeks.

As part of our newfound resistance efforts, we hope to shine a light on this group and help voters realize the danger they present to local school districts and public education throughout Wisconsin.

The three individuals I've listed, Brayden Myer (Manitowoc), Eric Meadows (Kenosha), and Jeff Voyer (Germantown) actually went on the Mom's for Liberty website and signed a public pledge to do their bidding.

The 4th woman, LaCrosse school board candidate Joy Buchman, with the help of the alt-right's non-profit legal arm, the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, sued the city for not allowing her to teach conversion therapy to LGBTQ+ students.

Well, these 4 folks, and probably hundreds more that are a bit more discreet about their bigotry, are running for their local school and county boards all across Wisconsin this coming April 1, and we want to EXPOSE THEM ALL for their hatred so they will loses their races and do no more harm to their communities.

If you, or anyone you know, knows a local candidate in Wisconsin running for school our county board that supports Mom's for Liberty, Christian Nationalism, or the innocuous-sounding but still-harmful "school choice movement," please email us here:

We are actively training volunteers to go to candidate forums throughout Wisconsin to shine a light on these folks. Again, if you want to help, please sign up to volunteer HERE.

Next,

We've finally found the staff to officially open a new Resistance Nerve Center from 11-4pm, Monday through Friday, at our Madison tap room located at 2927 East Washington Avenue.

We need volunteers to do the following, and it's always more fun to do this stuff with other like-minded folks than by yourself:

--Research and list all the Mom's for Liberty and "School Choice" candidates running for school boards across Wisconsin.

Write letters to the editor exposing these people to local newspapers.

--Figure out where people in these towns congregate on social media and expose the hate groups on those channels.

Find resistance events happening throughout the state that we can put our our own calendar and amplify those events to other folks on our socials.

--Make signs for protests happening in Madison (there are A LOT)

--Other stuff we figure out that's important to do between today and Monday.

Lastly, we plan to offer a training on how to Power Map at the Tap Room this coming Wednesday, March 19th, at 7 pm. Come in person or join me on Zoom or Facebook Live (Minocqua Brewing Company page).

https://us06web.zoom.us/j/88540633375?pwd=QHHrAZepACZamuhLbCNXsHVZbbNdTG.1

We hope volunteers can replicate the process we went through over the last two weeks in their own counties, so we can add it to our "master map" and also give your neighbors the tools they'll need to resist Fascism at the county level.

Last by certainly not least,

We've burned through a lot of Super PAC cash over the last month paying organizers and consultants to help get this resistance movement off the ground.

The good news is that we've raised approximately $25K in the last two weeks since announcing this resistance effort. The not-so-good news is that I believe to do this right, we'll need to raise around $200K to fully fund the effort for a year.

We can’t do this without a few full-time political organizers and support staff, and this is the estimated budget for salaries, benefits, and overhead (office, utilities, supplies).

If you agree with me and think there is a huge void that needs to be filled in order to anticipate and counter the inevitable harm that will ultimately reach Wisconsin from Washington D.C., here’s a link to donate.

And obviously, the more beer, coffee, wine, soda, and THC beverages you buy from us, the more we will be able to self-fund this resistance movement without having to ask for donations.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for sticking with the Minocqua Brewing Company.

Together, we simply must do everything we can to throw sand in the gears of the hatred, abuse, corruption, and misinformation coming our way from Trump and his cadre of Fascists, Oligarchs, and Christian Nationalists--one beer at a time.

happy tdov to people who don't pass or have no interest in passing, who can't pass because there is no culturally recognised category for the way they want to be recognised, who flip flop and fuck around, who can't hide their transness and have to plan their everyday around being visible, who can't signal their transness and have to come out over and over because the default presumption is intolerable, who don't have the resources yet or the knowhow or the willpower to change what they want to change, whose transness is warped by a hegemonic image of ideal transness that is almost as difficult to escape as the hegemonic image of cisness, who don't have a justification prepared for the assertion that they are trans but can no longer justify the assertion that they are not, who have a million justifications that are all surplus to the fundamental requirement (that society mandated one articulation of you and you chose another), et cetera and so forth across the world and universe forever. your version is right. don't concede.

A part of erasing queer history is simply making it easy to forget. A queerphobic society benefits when you throw your hands up and admit defeat. But a part of community work is actively deciding to learn your history and then sharing that with the people around you.

Social media is flooded with information, and it's hard to take the time to sit down and learn. That's why newsletters, books, and meetings with the community are so important. For a long time Making Queer History has worked to aggregate stories from queer history, but this year we are focusing on putting the tools in your hands. This means answering more questions, posting more on our Patreon (for free members and paid), and expanding what options we have for learning.

We will be asking for more feedback and sharing more community discussions, and the best way to be a part of this is to join our Patreon. You will get regular emails with articles about queer history, queer book recommendations, and information on what we are working on next. You can join for free, but we also love the people who pay us for our work. Queer history is a community responsibility, let's work together.

People for the past 5 years: "If covid effected our immune systems, we'd be seeing other diseases become more common"

2025: (Measles, TB, Flu, etc. on the rise or sticking around longer than normal)

People from the past 5 years: "What is going on?"

So in case anyone wanted more evidence of how government suppression of free speech is spreading globally, in the UK on Thursday evening (March 27th), twenty police officers broke into Westminster Quaker Meeting House in London and arrested six members of the group Youth Demand who met to discuss concerns about the climate and Gaza. The charge was apparently conspiracy to commit a public nuisance - this raid is a direct result of law changes in 2022 and 2023 designed to dramatically restrict people's ability to plan and carry out protests. In addition to breaking into the Meeting House, there have apparently been twelve related house raids and three other arrests.

This is horrifying. It is happening under an allegedly left wing government (our current PM Starmer is Labour, but that name doesn't really mean anything under his government). There is no harm caused in meeting to discuss ways to challenge the government, except to the government itself. Yet apparently, a simple meeting is enough to justify police armed with tasers and more than a dozen raids.

We are allowed to believe that change is necessary. We are allowed to discuss ways to make change happen - and across history, the most significant social changes have only been made possible thanks to protest.

Screw Labour and the UK establishment.

I want to add some more context about why this is so terrifying. The last time a Quaker Meeting House was violated like this in the UK was in the 1600s, to disrupt people who were exercising their right to freedom of religion. The state of free speech in the UK is apparently in a worse position than it has been for centuries - and certainly within living memory.

Our Meeting Houses are places of worship. They are places of peace and contemplation and it is so utterly disrespectful to break down our doors to stop people talking to each other. And I only know about this because I'm a Quaker myself, and I think it should be spread across the UK so people know how the state is actively working ageist us.

Please share this if you can.

"how can m/f ships be good-" first of all through the power of bisexuality anything is possible so write that down. second of all if we start othering ships based on gender and nothing else we're no better than the opposition. third of all you need to watch more addams family

If your primary concern in a ship is "they're two guys!" or "they're two girls!" or "one of them is nonbinary!" then it's going to be every bit as soulless as "Guy and Girl in close proximity, of course Romance will happen". If your judgement of whether a relationship is good is based on the genders of the participants then I don't trust you to write good romance.

Are you an American? Do you love our nation's national parks, our libraries, affordable health care, and essential checks and balances? DO YOU NOT WANT TO GO TO WAR WITH CANADA?

Fuck, are you just a European and you're highly emotionally invested in what's going on?

Well good news, help spread the news. Special elections April 1st and this is going to help break down the narrow majority Republicans hold on Congress.

Florida has two congressional seats up for election April 1st, and Wisconsin has a highly televised race for their supreme court Court that Elon Musk has invested millions into.

If you're Floridian, check to see if you're eligible to vote in either of the elections listed here.

If you're a Wisconsinite, for some ungodly reason about half of your election information is buried in Google and hidden amongst government websites but, find your polling place now.

GET YOUR ASS OUT AND VOTE JUST TO RUIN HIS DAY

ESPECIALLY YOU, FLORIDA

SLEIGHT OF HAND. DON'T LET HIM MAKE YOU LOOK AWAY FROM THE PRIZE.

WHIP MUSK’S ASS AND MAKE HIM CRY

every single article, post or mention of a Muslim or Latino person on a Visa or Green Card getting dragged off the street by masked men in broad daylight has the same exact comments: "wow, they're gonna start doing this to citizens soon." some of these people have lived here since they were 8 months old and have lived here for over 30 years. it's very telling that Americans are still are managing to separate them in their head from a "citizen" and that their outrage will be far greater when it's someone who "actually lives here" as if 3 decades in the same country shouldn't qualify you for the same rights as everyone else.

Can't express how stress free being open minded is.

Some lesbians use he/him? Oh cool.

Some people have people inside their head and sometimes it's fictional chars? Sick your brains like a pirate ship they're all working to run.

Some people like being treated like a pet dog? Bark bark bro.

Being fat isn't unhealthy but a perfectly normal type of body to have? Kinda beautiful how different we can all be.

Something doesn't make any fucking sense? Cool an opportunity to learn. And even if I can't figure it out it's cool we still have mysteries today.

It's just... idk man. People are weird. Being a person is weird. Society is weird. The universe is weird. Rather than having to "normalize" everything, just accept that some people are weird. So are you. Nothing is normal. the rules are all made up. I once saw a Klingon pushing a baby stroller down the street in toronto. The world is a weird place, man. Just roll with it.

Sometimes I see people from countries with public healthcare systems post videos that are like “This is the reality of socialized medicine. I had to wait in the ER with my sick baby for 4 hours.” “I had to wait 8 months to see a specialist. That’s egregious.” or “They didn’t have a bed for my loved one in mental health treatment.” and it’s like. Come to America babygirl. You can experience all of this and have your insurance deny it and pay thousands and thousands of dollars for it. Like I know healthcare systems in countries with public health can be bad but when I see someone imply they’re bad because the healthcare is universal, I want to jump through the screen and put my elbow on their throat. “The NHS is deeply flawed, therefore we should abolish it and go back to private healthcare. That will definitely make healthcare in this country better!” I am going to Kill You.

i thought my laptop was on its last leg because it was running at six billion degrees and using 100% disk space at all times and then i turned off shadows and some other windows effects and it was immediately cured. i just did the same to my roommate's computer and its performance issues were also immediately cured. okay. i guess.

so i guess if you have creaky freezy windows 10/11 try searching "advanced system settings", go to performance settings, and uncheck "show shadows under windows" and anything else you don't want. hope that helps someone else.

hey this is apparently helping a lot of people! adding that on top of this you can also go to settings > personalization > colors and turn off transparency to also boost performance. this wasn't the Big Fix for me but might as well do that too if you're trying to optimize.

past a certain note threshold on tumblr posts you unlock a bloodborne-esque insight and the strange lives of this site's users become visible to you

we fucking found them?

Ok I know we joke about this but I just went to the settings and first clicked "adjust for best performance" and then re-checked only 1 box:

"Smooth edges of screen fonts"

My computer was running hot before I turned everything off; the office I'm in is very warm, I could feel the heat of my CPU through the keyboard. The fans were going, not as loud as they usually get, but they were still blasting.

Y'all.

I can barely feel the warmth through the keyboard now. It's been like 2 minutes. The fan is nearly silent.

Click the Windows key and start typing "System settings", and "View Advanced system settings" will pop up. Then click "Settings" under Performance:

Then you'll see this:

TURN IT ALL OFF.

I turned "Show window contents while dragging" and then turned that off again. It's up to you.

My computer is so quiet and reasonably-temperatured now and I barely notice a difference in utility, why is windows like this

maybe I can even play computer games again

The second best thing you can do for a Win10 computer is turn off whatever unnecessary services it's decided it needs to run in the background always. Some services it does need, but others are useless. Here's an article that goes into step by steps.

10AppsManager lets you uninstall bloatware. Winaero Tweaker lets you disable crap like Cortana/Copilot, ads, telemetry, internet search results when you search from the taskbar, and all kinds of other stuff, plus it gives you lots of other little options that are just nice to have (like, it can restore the old MS Paint program in place of Paint 3D). Both are totally free.

Oh, and check your startup programs in the Task Manager tab to make sure your computer isn't automatically starting eight million programs every time it boots. But I think people mostly know about that. (Unless this is me going "they only know one or two feldspars... and quartz of course.")

The first best thing you can do for a Windows computer is install Linux Mint. But some of us do need a few pesky Windows-specific programs. Bleh. Still, if you're up for a project, you can have both (and it's awesome). Here's an article about setting up a dual boot Windows/Mint system.
