what i love about lottienat is how complex their believer/non-believer dynamic really is and how it kind of inverts in the adult timeline.
because teen lottie, who truly believes in the wilderness and in her connection to it, doesnt shun natalie out as a non-believer.
this might not seem like a big deal but we've seen how lottie treated jackie, and it's a really interesting comparison, if you take into account how jackie's death (and basically her entire argument with shauna and the rest of the team) came from her status as a non believer, and her refusal to accept their wilderness religion. jackie refuses to even pretend to align herself with the wilderness from the very beggining.
and i know you might think that the only reason natalie is not shunned is because of her role as the hunter. i mean, it's probably one of the most important roles in their little wilderness community, and jackie was already losing points with everyone else because she wasn't adaoting well or doing much for the group. but i think that there's more to it with natalie, because lottie tries to explain it to her. when natalie doesn't align with her beliefs, she doesn't just tries to force her faith upon her, but she also doesn't let her be: she wants show nat that just because she doesn't believe in it, it's not a bad thing. she just wants to make natalie understand.
and i think it's even more interesting if you think about how, since the wilderness and lottie's visions come from within her, then it's mostly a manifestation of herself. so when the wilderness chooses natalie, or when she tries to make natalie understand the wilderness, on a very subconscious level she actually just wants to make natalie understand her.
