30s | she/her | Mostly Elucien and Eris fanfic these days. banner by @dangerouslovesong. Eris icon by @lucychanart

Welcome to my blog! I am a fanfiction writer for the SJM fandom. I primarily write for Elucien, Eris x Alexius (Male OC), and Satharion. I have masterlists for all of my fanfictions as well as arts I've commissioned, moodboards and playlists I've created, and links to other fanartists' works based on my fanfictions. You can find them all on these ship-specific masterlists.

You can also find all of my fanfictions on my AO3 profile: Zenkindoflove.

I also have a joint Instagram that I share with @crazy-ache called crazykindoflove. We post all of our commissioned fanart on that page as well.

If you want to understand why I love Elain Archeron so much, I wrote a comparison post between her and Sansa Stark. Read the post here.

โ€œThis is your daily, friendly reminder to use commas instead of periods during the dialogue of your story,โ€ she said with a smile.

โ€œUnless you are following the dialogue with an action and not a dialogue tag.โ€ He took a deep breath and sat back down after making the clarifying statement.ย

โ€œHowever,โ€ she added, shifting in her seat, โ€œitโ€™s appropriate to use a comma if thereโ€™s action in the middle of a sentence.โ€

โ€œTrue.โ€ She glanced at the others. โ€œYou can also end with a period if you include an action between two separate statements.โ€

Things I didnโ€™t know

โ€œAndโ€“โ€ she waved a pen as though to underline her statementโ€“โ€œif youโ€™re interrupting a sentence with an action, you need to type two hyphens to make an en-dash.โ€

You guys have no idea how many students in my advanced fiction workshop didnโ€™t know any of this when writing their stories.

Reblog to save a life

One of the coolest parts about being a fan of fanfic is you can actually contact the author. And they will respond. And then you can message them nonstop until they allow you into their lives and then youโ€™re becoming their beta reader and suddenly you know multiple authors of all types of fiction books and fanfic authors who will drag out their deleted fics for you to read at a moments notice.

Anyway. Comment on fics and message authors. Itโ€™s absolutely worth it.

what is your ideal aprilโ€™s fools prank? sky is the limit. who are you messing with?

I'm not good at coming up with pranks. But I would support and laugh at anyone and everyone who legitimately fucks with either Elon or Trump tomorrow. Seriously, go balls out, guys. Whatever little action that makes their lives more hell, I would enjoy that immensely.

Anonymous asked:

how do you stay positive in the face of fandom craziness?

Create.

Seriously, that is the best advice I can give anyone. Make art. Write fic. Put together a playlist or curate a moodboard. Channel your energy into creating something and it'll be a balm to your soul in the face of all the fandom craziness and drama. And if you don't feel like you are good at any of those things, anyone is good at supporting creators by leaving them nice comments or sharing their work. Ultimately, this is a community, and a community needs the people who are receiving the art/fic/etc to communicate back to those who make it. It creates a more positive atmosphere and it allows for people to feel more encouraged to share their work. I've met my best friends in fandom leaving comments on their creative works or them leaving comments on mine. It starts a dialogue and you get to meet really cool people that way. In my early fandom days, I became known as a commenter more than a writer, and I have to say, it was super fulfilling to be that person in so many people's lives. And then of course I started creating things on my own too and I had a lot of great people around me who were so supportive.

It's only a positive feedback loop of goodness. If you can form community around the things you love, then, even when the drama gets too intense and you're feeling pissed off and hopeless, you have something to fall back on.

Also having another ship that is very unproblematic and out of any shipping wars that I can turn to helps too lol (talking about my boys here of course).

Rank the Bat Boys from best to worst. Be specific. Very specific.

Best to Worst. Here we go.

Cassian: Maybe controversial with some of my followers, but you can never make me hate Cassian. Cassian to me is the most loveable and easy to relate to out of the Bat Boys. I love his himbo tendencies and I enjoy his dynamic with Nesta. I like to include him in my fics whenever the characters are interacting with the Inner Circle because I get to channel a lot of comedic writing.

Rhysand: Rhys is such a mixed bag for me. I enjoyed him more in ACOTAR. SJM kind of neutered him for me in ACOMAF, and then he just sort of goes back and forth for me. I either get really irritated with him and find him to be annoying or flat out grating, or find some of his pompousness entertaining. In fics, I enjoy leaning into Rhys being more intentionally a fucker and owning it than I think SJM tends to do in the books.

Azriel: Probably no surprise. Azriel is the worst. It's a mix of things, but I find him at his best of times boring, and at his worst of times, a creepy, possessive, incel adjacent, hot head. And all of that would be fine and I'd just be like "lol, yeah Azriel annoys me" or "I don't care for Azriel", but his STANS. Dear God. His stans really cause so much drama in this fandom for no damn reason. So fandom just really makes him worse.

What's a recipe you think everyone should try?

When I was in high school, I had two best friends, both named Heather (they went by their last names to distinguish them which I of course won't say).

They introduced me to this dish and we would make it any chance we got whenever we had sleepovers at each others' houses. It was our thing and it made us really happy to make together. So many of my happiest memories from high school were hanging out with them, cooking this meal, and eating big heaping bowls of it all weekend while we watched movies, listened to metal and emo, and watched stupid videos online like Strongbad and Ebaum's world (lol aging myself).

One of the Heathers died a few years ago by tragic circumstances. At that time, we had grown apart, as friends often do when you grow up. It had been a few years since we chatted, but I still think about her all the time. She left such a lasting impression on me. She was the funniest person I have ever met. Truly the type of person who could charm anyone and make them laugh. She was also very soulful and I could have nice long chats with her about anything.

Anyways, I am sharing our recipe so that you can make it too. <3 I make it at least once a year to remember her, and I know it always made her happy when other people would try it and it became a comfort food for them too.

Jalapeno Chicken

Ingredients:

4-5 boneless/skinless chicken breasts

2 bell peppers (get creative with colors)

1-2 onions (depending on size)

Sliced, jarred jalapenos

5-6 packets of powdered brown gravy

3 cups of white rice

Vegetable oil

water

Instructions:

1. Boil the 3 cups of rice. This should be cooking during the whole preparation process.

2. Cube the chicken into bite size pieces. Cut away the fat.

3. Dice the onion.

4. Dice the green peppers.ย

5. Pour about 2 tbl spoons of vegetable oil at the bottom of a large pot. Turn the heat on medium.

6. Saute the onions. Stir occasionally and cook until the onions turn transparent.

7. Add the green peppers. These will not need as long to cook. Maybe about 3 minutes.

8. Add the chicken. Cook until white.ย

9. During this time, make the gravy in a separate bowl according to the instructions on the back of the package. Usually this consist of adding 1 cup of cold water for every packet you have. I usually stir this with a whisk because the powder gets very chunky.ย

10. Add the gravy mix to the pot. Bring the entire mix to a boil.ย

11. Once the mixture is boiling, add the jalapenos. This all depends on how hot you want the dish. I usually add about 1/3 of a normal sized jar. Turn down the heat and cover.ย

11. Simmer for 10 minutes.

12. Serve on top of white rice.ย

Notes: I usually buy a big pack of breasts and use the upper limits on this (6 packets, large onion, 2 peppers). The jalapenos will lose heat in the fridge as leftovers so if it's too hot you'll know the next day it should be better. And vice versa if it's not hot enough the next day add more jalapenos during reheating.ย

How much of your planned fanfic ideas do you think will end up in your original writing?

I had some world building and plots I wanted to explore in future stories that I have decided to work into my original writing instead of writing them as fanfics now. Some magical ideas. Some ideas around romance plots, or familial drama. All of which I want to work with my new world and new characters now. So I think those will appear for sure but likely not as I originally planned them since it'll be a new story. But inspired by things I wanted to try.

I also am pulling on some things I've written before and reworking them in new ways. Lets just say - I really like it when weird demons come out of trees.

what do you think the fandom needs more of?

what is your fav rarepair in ACOTAR?

what do you think the fandom needs more of?

Honestly, I've asked myself this question so many times and sometimes I think I have the answer but I really don't think I actually know shit.

I guess the answer I keep coming back to is this fandom needs to understand fandom history more and learn more about fandom culture and the reason why we have certain fandom norms around shipping and censorship. I have tried a few times to make posts about it and sometimes I think it has helped. But overall, I think that what the issue is is that there are always new people cycling in and out of the fandom and they come in very fresh and brazen - myself included. I think its pretty clear though who are fandom veterans and who are trying fandom for the first time. I think one thing I keep coming back to is learning fandom terminology. Language and shared jargon is a great way for subcultures to understand each other. There are terms around shipping that really takes the judgment out of fandom practices that could really help a lot of people simmer down with how they talk about shipping (like OTP/NOTP, squick, Your Mileage May Vary, etc.)

But I don't have any hope of that happening because this is not the only fandom that has been having this new surge and cultural shift since the pandemic. It's happening in many fandoms and ACOTAR is huge and spread across many social media platforms. I think that the craziness is here to stay.

Also just in general this fandom needs more support for fanfic authors. So if you read this today, go leave a comment on a fic you have read recently or your favorite fic. Especially if you have never left a comment before. Make an author's day.

what is your fav rarepair in ACOTAR?

CLARE BEDDOR AND ANDRAS

LOL, I love my little ghosty ship. I check the tag periodically to see if there has been another fic to join mine, but alas. It's all ALONE. (lol get it).

what is something you have learned while writing your book so far

I've been learning all kinds of things! More things than I realized I would learn which is very rewarding and stimulating. I definitely feel like I'm being challenged.

One of the things I'm doing is keeping up each week with Brandon Sanderson's BYU writing lectures for this semester. I've heard good things about them and I've been really enjoying them. He has a very helpful and non-prescriptive way of approaching teaching writing, and I find myself often feeling validated with my own experience and things I've learned writing fanfiction, but also learning some helpful things to build on some of the stuff I've learned by doing. So I would recommend watching those if you want to have some free classes on writing. You can find them on his Youtube page and he uploads all of his lectures every year. So there are ones from years past too.

In terms of personal things I've learned - I've learned a lot more about my own process and moving to a new kind of writing. I think there are different things that are challenging about original writing vs. fanfiction writing. To me I think what is hard about fanfiction writing is writing someone else's characters in a way that feels authentic and captures the magic that readers are seeking out that they got from the original source material. I know lots of people don't care about being "in character" but that is how I enjoy fanfiction for myself. I do like to see representations of my fave characters and ships feel like they are pulled from the pages of the source material and now are in this new storyline. And I think that is actually quite a hard skill to do and it takes a while to get good at it.

Original writing is sort of the opposite. I've been using the analogy of playing in a sandbox a lot. When you write fanfiction, the sandbox is already constructed for you. You can play with it how you want and you can introduce new toys, but you have what you need already there to start playing. Original writing you have to build the sandbox first, and sometimes it can be dissatisfying to start playing before you have some of it built. I struggled with that A LOT in the beginning with trying to find out who my characters were and what this world was that they were in. And now I'm sort of on this path where I'm getting more comfortable with them. And that has been exciting and new to discover how that fits into my process. I was very used to doing a broad outline and then pressing go. I have a lot of confidence with fanfic writing because I've been doing it for a long time. Original writing I have little confidence in, so I'm learning and growing that confidence as I keep going.

So yeah, I guess the biggest thing I'm learning is how to find that confidence again now that I'm on a new playground. Okay I'll stop with this metaphor.

what's your favorite season of drag race

LOL I wonder who this could be.

So for the record, I think the last season of Drag Race I watched was maybe 13. So It's been a bit. I think they're up to like 17 or something now. But I started watching Drag Race from when S1 aired on WOW. XD I watched it on my web browser. And I think the early seasons always hold a special place for me. 2 and 4 are really good. I also love 7 because I'm basic and love Trixie and Katya. I loved Bob the Drag Queen's season and Bianca Del Rio's, which I can't remember which ones those were. I REALLY loved the All Stars seasons cause it was a fresh spin on the format. Though really I'm not sure any one season is THE BEST. It's more like certain moments and certain queens stand out to me.

Another relaxing and writing night. Probably going to do these once a week. Feel free to ask me anything! Fandom, writing, weird stuff, whatever!
