The closer Eris gets to his goals the harder he has to work to keep all plates spinning. Tensions simmer underneath his new alliances, pulling him into the Hewn City where the impact of Rhysand’s rule shapes the future.

These delights thy mind may move (deleted scene ch 14, Azriel)

The Lady of Autumn is next 🍂 I am committed to drawing more women.

Side note: Because I like to hurt my own feelings, I made her look the most like Marcel, her third son and coincidentally, the most cruel of the Vanserra brothers. I just think there’s something so [screaming and gunshots ensue] about the son with the most twisted and terrifying nature taking after the gentle, kind-hearted mother. While Marcel enjoys the resemblance — the false sense of security it offers his victims — the Lady of Autumn can no longer look in the mirror without being reminded of the cruelty reflected in her own son’s face.

When a female character trains to be a warrior and wield a sword, it makes her feminine traits more palatable to a fantasy reader because she still embodies the typical (male) hero's journey. You can allow a FMC be as girly as you want if the audience sees she is willing to be "badass" by also kicking butt (the Buffy effect). But if you don't give that archetype to her in the first place, here come the accusations of a character being boring/stupid/vain/useless. That is the point. It isn't that other characters aren't feminine. It's what has been given to them to temper the inherent misogyny readers have about whose stories are valued.

Kicking off the week with Elain traveling to the continent and gathering Tulips. This beautiful piece was done by the wonderful @/somethingdeviant thank you so much for working with me.

@elainweekofficial day one — travels 🦢

“Their feathers are white as snow. They glide across the water — while she rages through the skies above it.” — a court of wings and ruin

“Lucien stared out the window — as if he could see the lake across a sea and a continent. As if he were setting his target.” — a court of silver flames

Elain, through her visions, is connected to Koschei and the other women imprisoned at his lake, where Vassa will soon be returning. I can’t wait for Elain’s journey to the continent with her mate alongside her. I imagine it being the perfect backdrop to Elain’s story with Lucien, one of growth and healing and adventures.

Thank you so much to tasbaqaart for bringing this absolutely magical piece to life! You captured the dark moody vibes I was looking for through your beautiful watercolors style!
