URBANISM ZINE
Submission CALL-OUT
My friend and I are starting a digital zine about cities! We aim to gather a polyphony of thoughts on matters pertaining to the urban realm. Urban living presents so much potential for personal and communal growth, for intellectual and emotional curiosities and perplexities to unravel, for identities to be shaped, to resist and to challenge power structures and norms.
The Zine desires to platform emerging artists in prose, poetry, photography, graphic design, mixed media and others modes of 'expression' as they say in french. We welcome submissions ranging from film critiques, to interview based articles or whatever else you want to experiment with.
Our first issue is about walking. Walking as an act or practice presents the walker with a myriad of possibilities for encounters with humans and non-humans, with a literal path for esoteric exploration. It creates a time and space where/when observations can translate into thoughts that resist, making it by its very nature subversive to the corrosive accelerated and mindless pace of the capitalist city. However, walking is not practiced and experienced in the same way by everyone. Microgeographies of walking are influenced by the walker’s gender, race, class, ability and the space and time they have to traverse.
So for this issue we are interested in submissions covering a variety of topics such as queer and female identities in relation to walking the city, racial politics in relation to walking in the city, la flanerie, walking as resistence, random encounters while walking, walking experiments and ethnographies, walking poems and visual art.
Email us at info.u.zine@gmail.com if you want to find out more or to make a submission (DEADLINE 29TH SEPTEMBER). Thank you!
