    Fictional entity

    [edit]

Why not to use this property to denote actors which played the characters? For example: Ron Weasley (Q173998) performer (P175) Rupert Grint (Q19190). Infovarius (talk) 09:34, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Besides for it not being particularly related to its existing use, it's completely redundant data. We already have cast member (P161) together with character role (P453) to cover this. Besides for that, using this property would be ambiguous. It would be impossible to tell in what context/work the actor/"performer" was playing the fictional entity. --Yair rand (talk) 09:50, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We can point the film as a qualifier. --Infovarius (talk) 10:50, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Infovarius: Yes, I suppose we could create a qualifier for this purpose. There would, however, be no reason to, for the reasons I mentioned above. --Yair rand (talk) 20:30, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So if we find a fictional character using this property, we should remove it? -Ash Crow (talk) 11:26, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No. And it's not redundant - this property is just an inverse to "cast member (P161) together with character role (P453)". The examples of 2 properties inverse to each other - numerous. --Infovarius (talk) 14:59, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So which property should we use as a qualifier? I can’t find a good one – perhaps applies to part, aspect, or form (P518) or present in work (P1441)? —DSGalaktos (talk) 12:29, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Use with media files on Commons

    [edit]

I added Wikibase MediaInfo (Q59712033) to allowed entity types for this property. The rationale is I want to use it on music recordings on commons, e.g. this or this. Is there any reason that would be a bad idea? Belteshassar (talk) 20:20, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
