Merging items

[edit]

Hallo Andre Engels,

For merging items, you may want to use the merge.js gadget from help page about merging. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically place a request to delete the emptied page. This way of nominating makes it a lot easier for the admins to process the requests.

With regards,
- User:CycnUser:CycnUser:CycnUser:Cycn - (Cycn/talk) 06:48, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wait, so you have a merge functionality, called merge.js, which requests deletion, but is not good, because there is another merge functionality, also called merge.js, which does request deletion, but at another place. What is this nonsense? If that other way is better, why isn't it provided directly? And why is the method I use called merge.js if it is to be replaced by a method called merge.js???????????????????????? - Andre Engels (talk) 06:58, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Araucaria balansae

[edit]

Hi Andre Engels, I noticed you merging Araucaria balansae into another taxon page. This is not a good idea. There are a number of pages that have more than one P225, but these either involve homotypic synonyms (with few iw-links), or higher-order groups where priority does not apply. Otherwise, synonyms can be filled in under "also known as", although this is imprecise. We really should have a property "synonyms of this name" and also "correct name" which would then allow putting in proper taxonomic references, but we don't have these yet. - Brya (talk) 09:57, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

some help tools

[edit]

Hi Andre Engels! You may add some help tools to user:Andre Engels/common.js . Please see User:Rotsaert8000 (in Esperanto), Wikidata:Tools, and Wikidata:Tools/User scripts. On the user:i18n-page you will see all WD gadget links. It takes time to see what fits most of your interests. Good luck gangLeri לערי ריינהארט (talk) 20:42, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

RFD

[edit]

RFD is severely backlogged, and you're making RFD more backlogged. Can you stop using WiDar for an hour or so, until our current ~700 RfD backlog is removed? And also, please check RFD page if it is backlogged (and slow down when it's backlogged.) Thanks. by ReviComplaint? at 08:38, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship

[edit]

You have made a lot of merge. Maybe you should request an adminship. That will reduce the current large RfD backlog.--GZWDer (talk) 09:55, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, Dear Administrator!

[edit]

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our gift is better than the one at Commons or Meta)

You have your gun; now here's your badge: {{User admin}}/{{#babel:admin}} and {{Admin topicon}}. Enjoy!

Andre Engels, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Wikidata. Please take a moment to read the Wikidata:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Wikidata:Project chat, Wikidata:Requests for comment, and Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikidata-admin @ irc.freenode.net. If you need access, you can flag someone down at @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Wikidata:Guide to Adminship to be useful reading. You may also want to consider adding yourself to meta:Template:Wikidata/Ambassadors, and to any similar page on your home wiki if one exists. (Check Wikipedia:Wikidata/Wikidatans (Q14964498).)

Please also add/update the languages you speak to your listing at Wikidata:List of administrators. You may also like to add your username to this list if you would not like that items you delete at RfD get marked as deleted automatically. Again, welcome to the admin corps!

ComicbookDB and Musicbrainz Imports

[edit]

I can see that 4 related data entries were removed; Q17275459, Q17275421, Q17275427, Q17275466.

For reasons of; "does not meet the notability policy". However it comes in line with, "It refers to an instance of a clearly identifiable conceptual or material entity. The entity must be notable, in the sense that it can be described using serious and publicly available references."

However all those related articles, about Heaven Sent Gaming, were imported from Musicbrainz, Freebase, and/or ComicBookDB. All of which were to be used in linking that corresponding information. And, for that reason, "it is needed to make statements made in other items more useful."

I apologize for not properly linking to that corresponding information. My apologies, I will correct this if you could repost the content, again my apologies for not making it clear in the data entries. Also, another user Haplology had patrolled the pages.

Best wishes, 97.123.55.117 16:57, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. thank you very much for patrolling and maintaining Wikidata, this is a great project. I just want to import some notable webcomic stuff, also obscure, but notable musicians.

P.P.S. I am now doing editing as DunDunDunt (talk) 17:19, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is being resolved by User:Jakec, thank you! DunDunDunt (talk) 18:28, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Now, I've made a duplicate entry.

[edit]

I accidentally made another Heaven Sent Gaming entry. Since you deleted Q17275459, accidentally created Q17275630.

Could you please undelete those prior four entries? And merge my mistake duplicate entry? ...my bad. I'm a newb. DunDunDunt (talk) 17:34, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also this page I was going to add new language version but the Edit button is not working now I am wondering whether someone blocked me or blocked whole Mongolian access into Wikidata?! Can you clarify it? For this page I was going to link [| this page], and for this previous sentence page I was going to link [| this page]. These all Mongolian versions of the articles. Deletion of Q18576964

[edit]

I have just encountered this deletion of Samuel Culverwell (Q18576964) by you, from 28 October 2016.

I can't now read the deleted item. The edit summary tells me "insufficient information to identify a unique person - content was: "Brett Usher, ‘Culverwell family (per. c.1545–c.1640)’, first published"). So I believe this item was bot-created as part of the project on the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (ODNB). This site is behind a paywall; however, it is a significant source for British history, and is widely available freely in the UK, with a local library card (and I use it all the time this way).

What is anyway available is the index page at http://www.oxforddnb.com/index/70/101070078/

I believe that the deleted page would have carried the OBIN identifier 101070078; which does uniquely identify the person Samuel Culverwell. I am currently checking through all these identifiers, to see which are missing from Wikidata. There should be no reason to delete a page with an OBIN identifier. In any case, I can clarify such issues. Charles Matthews (talk) 06:30, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I undeleted it now, sorry for the delay. - Andre Engels (talk) 16:33, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please fix your bot, it is making edits such as Special:Diff/695967821 and Special:Diff/695241724 which don't even come close to following Help:Description and is even overwriting ones which do.

GTAA on Wikidata

[edit]

You receive this message because you previously matched persons from the GTAA (the Thesaurus for Audiovisual Archives) with items on Wikidata. We would like to inform you about some improvements that we have made to that catalogue on Mix’n’Match. We have improved the automatic links and added additional information from our catalogue (what we’ve called ‘extracted terms’) to the terms. We hope that this makes matching the thesaurus with Wikidata that much more fun and easier. Read more about this project here or in Dutch WikiProject Dutch Media History nl here. Descriptions by Robbot

[edit]

Thanks a lot for the thorough items created with help of Robbot! The descriptions though added with this edit I think you should have better left out then adding them. The English one doesn't comply with Help:Description, is uppercase and has a full stop, the German one obviously taken from GND doesn't make much sense at all. Thanks for noting! Cheers, --Marsupium (talk) 12:34, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Robbot struggles with some characters - "Évora" comes out as "\u00c9vora"

[edit]

Hola! It seems your bot might have a problem with encoding special characters/accents, in this example (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q24789066) "Évora" comes out as "\u00c9vora" in the English description. Can you have a look when you get the time? Moebeus (talk) 01:54, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The issue is that bot gets its description from the linked pages, it chooses a part of the page as a possible description, then I decide among the descriptions provided. The given description comes from discogs, the issue being that it gets it from a part of the page that is in json, and apparently non-latin characters are escaped this way in json (or at least Discogs does so). I'll look into ways to unescape this kind of cases (I'm having the same issue, but more commonly, with the National Library of Poland). - Andre Engels (talk) 07:08, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Country of citizenship

[edit]

Hi there. Your bot seems to have added "country of citizenship" to Q1642179. Which happens to be a business and therefore isn't a citizen of anywhere. It also added organization and association to the association section. I'd argue those are to. So, I'd appreciated if you look into it and make sure it isn't making similar mistakes elsewhere. Thanks. --Adamant1 (talk) 07:46, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Robbot works

[edit]

You are adding the "full work" links to the wrong pages. Please stop your bot. --EncycloPetey (talk) 15:42, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You will need to remove most of the links you have been adding. Links to specific editions or translations of works must be placed on a separate data item from the one for the work. For example, The Frogs (Q815376) is a play by Aristophanes, and was written in Ancient Greek. You linked to the "full work" but in German, which is a translation. A translation has a translator, a publication date, a publisher, and other information unique to the translation, so translations should be placed as separate data items, linked using has edition or translation (P747). An example is Le Rane (Q21245161), which is a data item for an Italian translation of The Frogs (Q815376). --EncycloPetey (talk) 15:51, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Robbot adds wrong values to P1890

parlement.com & CC0

[edit]

- Robotje (talk) 16:17, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please bundle edits to the same item

[edit]

Hello Andre,

your bot has quite a bad behaviour when it comes to adding claimes. For example [3]. Here you adding a lot of claimes, but the bot add every claim in a separate action. This is quite bad for the API servers and has the impact that bot developers, who comply with the maxlag parameter, have no change to editing. Please change the behaviour of your bot.

  1. make batch edits
  2. comply with the maxlag parameter.

Best regards THE IT (talk) 13:18, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please specify where I do so, as far as I know I rarely do it, and if I do it not always with the same reason. - Andre Engels (talk) 11:53, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In that case I did it because I wanted "Samuel Henry Jeyes" rather than "S. H. Jeyes" as the label for the combined item. - Andre Engels (talk) 13:28, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK! You know how to change labels, though? :) --Sotho Tal Ker (talk) 14:06, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely, but this was less work. I'm lazy ;) - Andre Engels (talk) 14:08, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

These edits done by your bot were incorrect. All of them are linking to https://apcz.umk.pl/czasopisma/index.php/APH

Could you please correct them?

Thank you

Hi. Just noticed that this is your creation, and I think that it is a conflation of people, though not sure whether we conflated first or it was VIAF. <shrug>  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:37, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Could you please specify which links/data you think are from different people? If there are indeed different people here it could be my fault, or it could be caused by ISNII, they have quite a habit of conflating people. - Andre Engels (talk) 06:21, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Don't remove less precise dates

[edit]

Hello, please don't remove less precise dates if they are referenced. You can set Preferred Rank for the more precise, but please keep the less precise too! Thanks, Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 14:54, 18 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why?

[edit]

Why did you merge this ? Two completely different people. Why did you delete the different from (P1889) flag. Are you sure? Palotabarát (talk) 20:04, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Q86194458 had nothing but two external links. One to ISNI, which had a VIAF and several other links which already were on the other, and a KANTO link with one work on it, which was also mentioned on the VIAF entity. What makes you think that those are different people? - Andre Engels (talk) 20:08, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There were not only two external links, but also data about that person. It contained the dates of birth and death, which you deleted: 1584-1651.
Jacobus Cornelis de Vos (Q85849828) was born in 1966. Now Q85849828 includes an ISNI ID that shows the details of a person born in 1584. Palotabarát (talk) 22:36, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Really? Look at all data of the ISNI link rather than just that one line. He had a dissertation at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and co-authored with Jacques van Rijen who was born in 1944. It seems the ISNI combines data from two people, but those birth and death years are the ONLY one who are from that person, the related names, notes and sources are all from Jacobus Cornelis de Vos (Q85849828). - Andre Engels (talk) 05:21, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Are you saying that if ISNI mixed it up, we MUST mix it up too? Please separate these two items. Thanks. Palotabarát (talk) 08:10, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Are you saying that if ISNI has some wrong information about a person we should have separate entities with the wrong and the right information? Thbere is one piece of information on the ISNI that is not about this person. Why is that one piece of information deciding, rather all the other pieces of information? - Andre Engels (talk) 08:34, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No, I want to say that if you were written that different from (P1889), you would not merge it. If you merged incorrectly, separate it. Otherwise, the other person's ISNI is 0000 0000 8718 0075 Palotabarát (talk) 09:16, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And the other person's Q-number is Cornelis de Vos (Q474934). In my opinion, my merge was NOT incorrect. There is nothing to separate. - Andre Engels (talk) 10:48, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But if you really want to separate: https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q474934&diff=1448487445&oldid=1429499488&diffmode=source That's all there was to separate. - Andre Engels (talk) 10:50, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It was obviously wrong - it follows from the dates of birth - you combined it with the wrong element. But I'm glad you tried to fix what you messed up. It wouldn't have been a problem if it didn't have different from (P1889) in it. Delete and merge this: wrong. Palotabarát (talk) 09:17, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Page "Nùmer pentadecagonèl" in eml.wikipedia

[edit]

I deleted your link to the English page "pentadecimal number", because the eml.page refers to POLIGONAL NUMBERS, whose pentadecagonal one has 15 sides. Pentadecimal numbers refer to a numeration system with basis 15. Thank you, --Gloria sah (talk) 16:53, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for correcting my mistake! - Andre Engels (talk) 17:29, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Be more careful of merges

[edit]

Jacobus Schroeder van der Kolk was merged with a person with a similar name. They were born 150 years apart, it should be obvious they are not the same people. --RAN (talk) 19:29, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

CANTIC

[edit]

Thanks for importing CANTIC ids from VIAF! But this is not the correct one. The correct one starts with "a" and it is in field 35. --FogueraC (talk) 08:03, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I only use the 'main' page of each VIAF entry, and there for this person the 'right' identifier was replaced by the 'wrong' one on August 21. I have now changed my bot so that it will only accept the correct type of identifiers for CANTIC from VIAF. - Andre Engels (talk) 08:30, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

edits by Robbot

[edit]

Hi, thanks for adding info on https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q101219034. Unfortunately several of the edits were incorrect (archaeology is complex and the VIAF entries are incorrect...) and I will revert them. Amalaswintha08 (talk) 14:33, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Q56839701

[edit]

Please check Jacqueline S. Bell (Q56839701). You (or your bot) have conflated two identities; the ORCID iD, for example, is for a person who is still alive. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 18:01, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the other one is also still alive (the death date was actually a birth date misrepresented as a death date in the source), but they are indeed different people. In fact, there were 3 people here, one from SCOPUS and ORCID, one from BNE and Babelio, and one for the remaining links. I have now removed the four incorrect links. Thanks for the notification. - Andre Engels (talk) 22:21, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I now noticed that the SCOPUS/ORCID one is the original one. The conflation came well before I dealt with the page, the confusion started with the edits by Floor KB in August 2019. I will be moving the item back to the version before those edits, and create a new one for the other entries (except BNE and Babelio). - Andre Engels (talk) 22:29, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And done - Jacqueline Bel (Q109937140)
And the third one now has an item too - Jacqueline Bel (Q109937593) - Andre Engels (talk) 23:39, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Isolating Romanian descriptions

[edit]

Can you help me isolate items in which Robbot has added Romanian descriptions like this? The encoding was all messed up and the descriptions are far from the guidelines expressed at Help:Description. I'm fixing them when I see them (e.g.) but a full list of affected items would help a lot. Appreciate! Gikü (talk) 17:26, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not reacting before, but I thought it would be nigh impossible to do because the bot leaves no log or something like that. However, I now realize that you can usually find them by searching for "cunoscut(ă)" here on Wikidata. And apparently you noticed that too, as I see only a few results from that, and they are all ones that have been worked on in the last a bit over a week. - Andre Engels (talk) 06:13, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,

In french the term "Articulation intervertébrale" is the set of "Symphyse intervertébrale" (TA98 ID A03.2.02.002) and "Articulation zygapophysaire" (TA98 ID A03.2.06.001). There are not TA98 ID for the french term "Articulation intervertébrale". So, i don't understand the revert ? --Dbult (talk) 16:15, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm doing these through duplicity, which unfortunately does not well show whether one is adding a new link or changing a link. Because of that I do that check some time afterward. I had not yet gotten to that for these changes. - Andre Engels (talk) 16:18, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ulsted Church etc.

[edit]

Please note that you should only do the change you did to Ulsted Church (Q12340219) if the item has a topic's main category (P910). Also please note that Commons gallery pages rarely are updated or all that interesting. Hjart (talk) 08:42, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ik weet het niet zeker, maar volgens mij loopt de zoekfunctie wel vaker wat achter bij wijzigingen, en ik kan me voorstellen dat dat nog sterker geldt wanneer de wijziging op een andere wiki is. - Andre Engels (talk) 10:00, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Clady River entry

[edit]

Hi there. I noticed you recently connected a Manx language article to the Wikidata item entitled Clady River. Clady River is a river in County Londonderry according to the connected English language entry. The images in Wikidata are for this river. However, the maps on Wikidata are for the river in Meath. It appears two separate rivers have been merged in this entry. Maybe you could take a look at this. I left a message on the discussion page at the Wikidata entry for Clady River. Regards, MacTire02 (talk) 00:39, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have now split off the Londonderry River into Clady River (Q121811524), keeping the Meath one at Clady River (Q32690630) - Andre Engels (talk) 08:03, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Şemsi Pasha

[edit]

Hi @Andre Engels thank you for your recent language link to Macedonian wikipedia.

My apologies for undoing the link, but unfortunately, the article in the Macedonian language confuses two different people which must be updated before the article is linked with all the other wiki languages (which are all correct). Information regarding the confused identities has been added to the Macedonian article talk page in order to support the approval of corrective edits.

Many thanks again and I hope that clears things up, Max45789 (talk) 01:15, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Semiz Ahmed Pasha

[edit]

Hi @Andre Engels,

On a separate note, I've tried to link Semiz Ahmed Pasha (Q121767951) to its wiki:it equivalent, where he is known as Semiz Ahmed Pascià, but unfortunately I get the following message:

Could not save due to an error.

If this is something you can sort out I would be most grateful.

Many thanks for your assistance in advance.

Kind regards, Max45789 (talk) 01:23, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This has been done, it was simply a merge, which is something I do pretty often. The combined entry is now at Semiz Ahmed Pasha (Q121675303). I also added some data on him using my bot. - Andre Engels (talk) 08:21, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Andre Engels great, thank you! I now know who to get in touch with when I come across this sort of issue in the future ;)
Kind regards, Max45789 (talk) 11:53, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

quinoxaline (Q419930) is about a specific chemical compound, i.e. 1,4-benzodiazine. quinoxalines (Q57263710) is about a class of chemical compounds, i.e. every compound with a benzene and a 1,4-diazine fused rings in its structure. These items must not be merged. So I have to ask: what was the reason you merged these two items? Which piece of information from these two items made you think they should be merged – I'm asking for the future, because similar situations occur relatively often, even if the items contain different from (P1889) statements.Wostr (talk) 11:03, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The names - both are called quinoxaline, benzopyrazine, 1,4-diazanaphthalene and 1,4-benzodiazine - Andre Engels (talk) 13:10, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Taiwanese tribe names

[edit]

Regarding Taiwanese tribe names, a list of approved Taiwanese tribes can be found here. Note that a few tribes appear to share the same Chinese name so be careful when adding links to the different Wikidata items. If an item gives a population count, a look at the listed population count per tribe in the list may give an indication concerning which tribe a particular item is referring to. Kind regards. Siege of Kursk

[edit]

Your bot is adding false dates to the 1612 Siege of Kursk (Q124258866). Also the armed conflict is redundant and the battle too if its a siege, and location should be used for events, not administrative location, and the values are much vaguer than the location Vicarage (talk) 06:33, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicates

[edit]

Please don't (re)create duplicates like you did with National Museum of Iran (Q126019029), with completely incorrect descriptions (like it's an "ancient city") and so on. It's a duplicate about the building which already existed (Museum of Ancient Iran (Q5888464)) and I redirected it few months ago. Persian Wikipedia has an issue with bot-imported articles because it created numerous duplicates of already existing articles, and that doesn't mean that every single fa.wiki duplicate should has an item on Wikidata. --Orijentolog (talk) 13:42, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Inari Saami Wikipedia and creating items in Wikidata for it

[edit]

Tiervâ! Thanks for creating wd items for some of our pages in the Inari Saami Wikipedia; it reduces the load on us, for which I am thankful. I noticed that you added language of work or name (P407) as Finnish (Q1412) to Seksuaalvuođâ sänikirje (Q130670112), but as it comes from the Inari Saami Wikipedia, it would be better to assume that the language is actually Inari Sami (Q33462). Google, etc. usually always misinterpret texts in the language as being in Finnish, so this is quite a common error. - Yupik (talk) 09:25, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Google actually understood the language of the article as Northern Sami (Q33947), not Finnish. The reason that I gave Finnish (Q1412) as the language of work or name is that the article says "Sänikirje toimâttij já almostitij [...] já tuše suomâkielân" where suomâkielân was translated as 'Finnish' by Google - and it seems correctly so as smn:Suomâkielâ is indeed the article in Inari Saami about Finnish. - Andre Engels (talk) 09:49, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
