The West Uusimaa police department said on Thursday that a 62-year-old man died in an accident on Tuesday at a building site in Espoo. The man had been working as an assistant on a pile driver when he was struck and killed.

Police say the accident occurred around 9.30 am at a site on Sinimäentie, near Tapiola. It is being investigated as a suspected violation of occupational safety.

On Monday, another man died at the K-Kampus construction site in Helsinki’s Kalasatama district. He was killed and another worker badly injured when a conveyor cage fell sideways at a fifth-floor level, dropping them from a height of 19 metres. The men, both Finns, were not wearing safety belts.

Police are looking into whether to launch a preliminary investigation into Monday’s incident.

The man who died on the way to the hospital was born in 1989, while the other, now in intensive care, was born in the 1990s.
