Rolling in the snow and climbing a tree were clearly expressions of the joy of being allowed outside for the first time since arriving in Finland last month.

The giant pandas Lumi and Pyry provided visitors to Ähtäri Zoo with quite a show Saturday morning when their quarantine ended and they were let out into the open air for the first time.

The two pandas, on loan from China, are being kept in separate enclosures while they mature to breeding age. However, the facility has been designed so that they are aware of each other's presence.

The Ähtäri Zoo Panda Centre was officially opened to the public on Saturday.
