Finland will switch to what it calls "summer time" or daylight saving time, early Sunday morning, when the clocks will be turned one hour forward at 3 am to 4 am. Although many electronic devices now make the transition automatically, it is still a good idea to switch older time-keeping instruments to the new time before going to bed on Saturday.
Finland will return to what it calls "winter time", or standard time, again on the last Sunday in October.
Finland has petitioned the European Union to abandon the practice of switching to daylight saving time. The European Parliament considered the motion in early February, but so far none of the other EU countries has lent its official support to the initiative. A comprehensive analysis of the proposition has been commissioned, however.
