Rainy weather arriving in many parts of Finland

A significant precipitation system bringing wind and possible thunderstorms is headed toward Finland from the west.

While it will be sunny and warm in the south of Finland on Thursday, a major precipitation system is approaching from the west, bringing significantly cooler temperatures and rain across the country.

The rest of Thursday will be sunny with high temperatures of 24-29 degrees Celsius across many southern regions, but those temperatures will quickly drop as the evening progresses.

Friday's temperatures in the south will range from 14-18 degrees.

Central Finland forecast

The skies of central Finland will become increasingly cloudy as the day progresses on Thursday, eventually bringing showers across the region. In the evening the rain will likely become heavier, with the possibility of thunderstorms in eastern areas.

Central region daytime high temperatures between 23-28 degrees are expected Thursday, somewhat cooler in Ostrobothnia in the west of the country.

Northern Ostrobothnia and Kajaani

It will become increasingly cloudy and rainy on Thursday across the regions of northern Ostrobothnia and Kajaani. Daytime high temperatures of 11-16 degrees are expected for the remainder of Thursday.

On Friday the cloud cover should break up in some areas. High temperatures in the region on Friday will be 9-16 degrees, with light winds.

Outlook in Lapland

Way up in Finland's north, it should be cloudy with local showers across the region on Friday. Rain could be heavy in parts of southern Lapland.

Daytime high temperatures on both Thursday and Friday in Lapland will range from 10-15 degrees.
