Police have detained four suspects connected to the heist of a Laatukoru jewellery shop in the city of Vantaa's Jumbo shopping centre in the early hours of the morning on Saturday.

The Eastern Uusimaa Police Department reported that the thieves made off with hundreds of thousands of euros' worth of jewellery during the raid, which took place between three and four a.m.

Local law enforcement officials said surveillance camera footage of the robbery was a big help.

"We were able to track down to the suspects quickly, thanks to efficient intelligence cooperation with the Helsinki Police Department," said detective chief inspector Mikko Minkkinen, the Eastern Uusimaa Police Department's investigation leader.

The police report that most of the thieves' haul was recovered in a home search leading up to the detentions. Minkkinen had earlier told the STT news service that the heist looked professional because the thieves targeted the most valuable pieces in the store and were in and out of the premises in under two minutes.

The investigation into the theft will continue with suspect questioning, and the police say more information will likely become available early in the coming week.

The Jumbo indoor shopping centre is located just a few kilometres from the Helsinki Airport, north-east of the Helsinki city centre.

Jumbo's property manager Hannu Hirvonen told the STT news agency that none of the other business premises in the complex were breached in the incident. He reported that the area around the break-in has been cleaned up and the shopping centre is once again open for business as usual.
