Helsinki District Court handed down a three-year jail sentence to a sushi chef for stabbing a colleague during an argument at the downtown restaurant where they worked.
His colleague died a few days after the incident in August. The defendant was found guilty of using excessive force resulting in manslaughter, according to tabloid newspaper Iltalehti.
The paper reports that the dispute between the workers escalated after one of the men splashed dirty water on his colleague after which each of them picked up a knife.
The defendant said he used the weapon in self-defence but the court ruled that he used excessive force.
The prosecution has demanded a minimum eight-year sentence. The sentence is not enforceable and can still be appealed. The defendant remains in custody.
