One person died in a collision on Wednesday in Kangasniemi in the South Savo region. The single-vehicle accident took place in the late morning on Route 13 between the cities of Jyväskylä and Mikkeli.
A van struck a rock wall and ended up across the motorway, about seven kilometres from the centre of Kangasniemi in the direction of Jyväskylä.
The driver of the van died in the crash. The Eastern Finland Police Department said that the motorist was a 44-year-old man, who was the only person in the vehicle.
It estimated that Route 13 between Mikkeli and Jyväskylä would be closed until around 2:00 pm.
A detour is being arranged for cars. Rescue officials request that heavy vehicles drive by way of Toivakka, on a smaller road that runs parallel to Route 13.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute has not issued any driving advisories for Thursday.
