Air traffic controllers face lockout

Palta, the group representing air traffic controller employers, said it will stage an employee lockout at eight Finnish airports in two weeks’ time.

The lockout is to start in two weeks, extending from the evening of 23 February through the morning of 25 February.

The employers' association, Palta, said the measure is aimed at speeding up stalled contract talks with the Finnish Air Traffic Controllers Association (SLJY), the union which represents employees.

Palta on Saturday notified the National Conciliator of the temporary work stoppage, which bars employees from entering the workplace. The employers' association said management will ensure flight safety services during the lockout.

SLJY and Palta have been negotiating the terms of new job contracts since autumn 2017, which is when air traffic controllers’ collective agreement expired.
