The Turku Appeal Court has upheld a conviction handed down by a lower court on a man for ten counts of rape, assault, and aggravated child sexual abuse.

The appellate court also maintained the sentence of three years and eight months jail time for the offences, the original sentence handed down by the Pirkanmaa District Court.

The man was also ordered to pay a fine of 34,000 euros. The rape crimes were committed in Tampere at the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018. The victim was a special needs young woman.

Other counts of assault and aggravated child sexual abuse involved other victims.

The sentence is not yet enforceable as the defendant may still contest the verdict in Finland’s Supreme Court.
