Police have issued advance warning of a nationwide speed monitoring operation due to take place on Wednesday, in which all 130 speed cameras along Finland's motorways will be activated.
Mobile patrols as well as the entire fleet of specialised speed monitoring vehicles will also be deployed for the operation.
The sting will begin at one minute past midnight on Wednesday morning and continue through to midnight the same day.
The exercise will particularly focus on urban areas and on districts and roadways where road accidents have occurred and where motorists are known to exceed the speed limit.
"Our hope is that by monitoring and providing advance information we can prevent traffic accidents. We hope that motorists will consider their driving habits and observe the importance of speed limits from their own perspective as well as that of other road users," police inspector Kari Onninen said in a statement.
Police apprehended more than 5,000 motorists for speeding during a similar traffic enforcement exercise last year.
The 24-hour traffic sting is part of an operation involving the European traffic police network.
