Customers of Finland's state-owned railway company VR reported glitches in its ticketing services on Tuesday. Passengers have complained about not receiving train tickets after purchasing them from VR’s online store. They have also reportedly faced issues while using VR ticket vending machines across Finland.
As of Tuesday afternoon, railway authorities had not yet estimated how long the problems would persist.
An error message was posted on their website — "Our sale systems may experience malfunctions. VR regrets any inconvenience this may cause you."
VR is currently in the process of upgrading its ticketing system. The disruptions do not seem to have affected its newer vending machines and its beta online store, from where customers were able to successfully purchase tickets on Tuesday.
Long haul train passengers who face difficulty purchasing tickets can directly buy them from conductors in the trains without having to pay an extra charge, according to VR's communications department.
Passengers can purchase tickets for VR’s commuter services on a separate mobile application as usual.
The ticketing issue was first reported by the daily Helsingin Sanomat.
