Posti, Finland’s state-owned mail services provider, said Tuesday that it had posted slightly improved second-quarter revenues compared to the same period last year.

Net turnover for the period grew to 393.8 million euros, up from 386.8 million euros in the second quarter or 2018. The adjusted operating result came in at 8.7 million euros this year, compared to 8.2 million in the second quarter last year, a slight increase of two percent.

Letter mail down 13 percent

The national mail carrier said that the second quarter saw a rise in parcel deliveries, even as residents mailed 13 percent fewer letters during the period, compared to last year.

The company noted that in March, it had adjusted the delivery speed for letters mailed by consumers from two working days to four. It also invested in a major expansion of its parcel locker network, which grew 41 percent during the first half of the year to reach nearly 1,500 units.

At the end of July, Posti announced that it would hike prices for sending letters and cards and reduce fees for mailing parcels. The new price regime is set to take effect from the end of August.
