The body of a 26-year-old local man was found early Sunday in the eastern city of Joensuu. Police are investigating the death as a case of manslaughter. There were signs of violence on his body, which was found near the Noljakka school.
Police have detained two suspects, and are asking for any eyewitnesses to contact them by email (vihjeet.ita-suomi@poliisi.fi) or phone (0295 415 232).
The police promise more information about the case on Monday morning.
Shots fired in Järvenpää
Police in the southern town of Järvenpää are seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting incident in the city centre on Saturday evening. Several people reported hearing gunshots, but there have been no reports of injury.
Law enforcement officials say a suspect was detained on Sunday.
"At the moment it appears to have been a settling of scores between two people," said Police Commissioner Simo Kauppinen.
Police carried out searches after 9 pm at flats in the Pajala neighbourhood of Järvenpää, some 40km north of Helsinki.
Police Commissioner Jarmo Ojala said earlier that the case was being investigated as an attempted aggravated assault along with various firearms offences. Police are asking with knowledge of the incident to contact them at vihjeet.ita-uusimaa@poliisi.fi.
One hospitalised after barroom brawl in Salo
In Salo, southwest Finland, two young men were detained on suspicion of three counts of assault. Around 1 am, police responded to reports of a large fight outside a nightspot in the town centre.
Several people said they had been beaten by two young men. Most were only slightly injured but one victim was hospitalised. Police later detained two local men aged around 20 at another bar in connection with the assaults.
The overnight incidents followed a shooting in Iisalmi and a police office being struck by a car in Porvoo the previous night.
