Two people have died in Finland from novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to separate announcements by the Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) and the Kanta-Häme Hospital District.
The fatalities bring Finland’s death toll to three, after the country's first death was recorded in the Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District on March 20.
According to the latest statement by the HUS, an elderly patient died on Tuesday evening at a hospital in the district.
On Wednesday, a middle-aged patient who was considered to be in one of the risk groups due to an underlying illness died at the Kanta-Häme Central Hospital in southwestern Finland.
Neither district provided any additional information on the deceased, citing patient confidentiality.
The Kanta-Häme district also announced that two more coronavirus patients are currently being treated at Kanta-Häme Central Hospital.
To date, a total of 20 coronavirus infections have been detected in the region, with one new infection confirmed on Tuesday.
