Tuesday will be the sunniest and driest day next week nationwide before clouds and rain move in again over Finland on Wednesday.
The mercury may rise to 15 degrees Celsius between Tuesday and Wednesday in southern and eastern areas, according to Yle meteorologist Anne Borgström.
"Ostrobothnia will see a sunny start to the week. It’s more of a mixed bag elsewhere," she explained.
On Monday northern Lapland could see five centimeters of fresh snow, causing slippery roads in the area.
Slow thaw
Metre-deep snow covers many areas of Finnish Lapland. Parts of North Karelia in the east are also blanketed in half a metre of the white stuff.
Nighttime lows will still plunge into sub-zero territory up north, where residents are bracing for spring floods.
"Freezing nighttime lows are a good thing right now in snowy Lapland, giving the wind and sun the opportunity to slowly melt the snow during the day," Borgström explained.
Lakes in Lapland and Kainuu in the northeast are still frozen, with the ice up to 20 centimetres thicker in some places than usual for this time of year.
