Five young people have tested positive for coronavirus after visiting Heidi’s Bier Bar in Turku last Thursday, city officials said in a statement on Friday.

The city is now calling on other patrons who visited the bar on 3 September to monitor their health and to get tested should they develop even the mildest symptoms.

According to city officials, customers may also have been exposed to Covid-19 infection between 10pm and 1am on Saturday 5 September at the city's Studio nightclub.

Meanwhile people who attended a number of different student events in Turku are also being asked to monitor their health and to get tested if symptoms appear.

Symptoms include throat and muscle pain, fatigue, a runny nose, nausea, diarrhoea, fever, a cough, difficulty breathing or a combination of any of the symptoms mentioned. Young adults in particular may experience only mild indications that they have an infection, but it is still important for them to get tested, officials said.

"Young adults have accounted for a growing proportion of confirmed coronavirus infections in Turku. It’s important to continue to maintain safety distances and good hand hygiene, especially in situations where people gather in groups," Turku infectious diseases head physician Jutta Peltoniemi said in the statement.
