Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s (SDP) government has won a parliamentary confidence vote by 102 votes to 75, with 22 MPs absent.
The vote of confidence was based on an interpellation question tabled by all four opposition parties on the government's economic and employment policies.
The ranks of the government parties remained united in the vote, meaning that all representatives of the five coalition parties voted in favour of retaining the government's confidence.
Opposition parties had argued that the government’s economic policy is irresponsible and failed to achieve the promised employment measures.
During a lengthy interpellation debate in Parliament on Wednesday, the government defended its economic policy, arguing that in the context of the coronavirus crisis, it was not possible to stick to the original target of 75 percent employment.
This was the first confidence vote of the coronavirus era. During the initial outbreak of the virus in the spring, opposition parties refrained from tabling interpellation questions in order to allow the government space to deal with the early stages of the coronavirus crisis.
