Customers of the beleaguered Vastaamo therapy centre have been told that they can now file secure electronic requests concerning their personal data. They will have to authenticate themselves, either by using banking codes or mobile ID services, the company said on its website on Monday.
The firm, which was the target of a large-scale data breach that affected thousands of customers, said that patients will also be able to receive their data via encrypted email or as hard copies in the mail. Last week patients were told that they could retrieve their personal files by picking them up physically at one of just five locations.
Vastaamo said that it is aiming to fast-track delivery of patient data in cases where customers provide all the information required to fulfill their requests. However the firm said on its website that although electronic authentication is now possible, it will take some time to work through the backlog of patient requests.
An estimated 40,000 patients were affected by the data theft, and more than 25,000 criminal reports were filed by individuals over the matter.
Finnish law requires service providers to respond to requests for verification of data within one month.
