Longtime National Coalition Party MP Ben Zyskowicz is considering leaving his post before his term ends due to health concerns, according to daily Helsingin Sanomat.
In an interview with the newspaper, the veteran MP revealed that he suffers from chronic migraine and depression, saying that he suffers migraine headaches every day, despite taking medication for the illness.
The paper noted that Zyskowicz had already reduced his workload in parliament.
"When my head aches every damn day, how could it not affect my mood," Zyskowicz told the paper.
Zyskowicz said that by revealing his health problems, he wanted to change prejudices associated with depression and lower the threshold to talk about mental health issues.
The 66-year-old Zyskowicz has continuously served as an MP since 1979. Finland's next parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place in the spring of 2023.
