An electrical fault disrupted both long distance and local commuter rail traffic in the Helsinki region on Friday, with a bump-on effect impacting traffic nationwide.

As of mid-day on Friday, the state railways VR said that only some long distance train departures from Helsinki towards to Tampere and Lahti were operating. Local commuter traffic in the capital region has also been reduced.

Just after noon, the national traffic management agency Fintraffic was unable to provide an estimate as to when the malfunction may be repaired.

Updates on rail traffic in English are available from the VR website.
