Finland's government plans to end the nationwide remote working recommendation before March, according to a report by news agency STT.

The government's Covid ministerial working group discussed the issue at a meeting on Tuesday morning.

The group said it supported the recommendations put forth by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, which includes transitioning to a model that combines remote work with commuting.

The current recommendation is for people who can work from home to do so, and although the nationwide recommendation is set to end, the measure can remain in force on a regional basis.

The working group also finalised the details of its updated hybrid Covid-19 strategy on Tuesday. The strategy includes opening up society as much as possible while ensuring post-pandemic reconstruction and recovery and preparations for further outbreaks.

The government has previously announced plans to ease Covid restrictions during the month of February.

Helsinki could allow public events next week

The Helsinki Metropolitan Area coronavirus coordination group has recommended that restrictions on public events in the metropolitan area be lifted on 14 February.

According to the group, the coronavirus situation in the area has been steadily improving and infection rates are declining, which means that a sudden increase in hospital burdens would be unlikely.

The group still recommends using a face mask for indoor events and public transport. The Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland (Avi) has said that it will take the recommendation into account when it assesses the Covid-19 situation in the hospital district later this week.
