The former owners of the psychotherapy centre Vastaamo have been ordered to pay 8 million euros in compensation to the investment company that bought the firm, according to a report by commercial broadcaster MTV.
The ruling comes after the firm's current owner, Intera Partners, filed a complaint to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) last year about the deal to buy Vastaamo.
However, neither of the current or former owners of the company were willing to confirm the report to MTV News.
Vastaamo hit the headlines in 2020 when details emerged of a massive security breach, where the sensitive patient data of up to 30,000 people was stolen. The hackers then tried to profit from the leak by demanding payment, first from the company and later from the patients themselves.
The data hack occurred a few months before the sale to Intera, but former Managing Director Ville Tapio did not inform the investment company.
Intera Partners Managing Director Jokke Paananen has said that the deal would never have been completed if the breach had been disclosed.
More than 22,000 criminal reports have so far been filed with police in relation to the data breach, and investigations are ongoing.
