The Finnish Chamber of Films has chosen the feature Girl Picture ("Tytöt tytöt tytöt") as Finland's contender for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards, the chamber announced on Tuesday.

Directed by Alli Haapasalo, the coming-of-age film tells a story about three teenage girls' friendship and romantic relationships.

While praising the film's actors, Finland's Oscar jury described Girl Picture as a high-quality, emotion-evoking sum of its parts.

The film stars actors Linnea Leino, Aamu Milonoff and Eleonoora Kauhanen, and its screenplay was written by Ilona Ahti and Daniela Hakulinen.

Girl Picture premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, winning the Audience Award in the World Dramatic competition and debuted in Finnish cinemas in mid-April.

Final Academy Award nominations are made official on 24 January 2023 and the Oscar awards event itself is scheduled on 13 March.
