PM Marin hosts luncheon with 8 former Finnish premiers

The meal was served at Helsinki's Government Palace, a building which was built 200 years ago.

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin (SDP) hosted a celebratory luncheon for eight former premiers in Helsinki on Tuesday.

Invitees to the special meal at the Government Palace in the heart of downtown Helsinki, included: Paavo Lipponen (SDP), Esko Aho (Cen), Anneli Jäätteenmäki (Cen), Jyrki Katainen (NCP), Mari Kiviniemi (Cen), Matti Vanhanen (Cen), Juha Sipilä (Cen) and Antti Rinne (SDP).

The PM and her predecessors were served sparkling wine aperitifs and red wine paired with their food, a lunch inspired by festive meals eaten at Finnish manors two centuries ago.

The Government Palace was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel and construction was completed in September 1822. The large building is located by the city's Senate Square, next to Helsinki Cathedral.

These days, the building is occupied by offices of the Finnish Government, the Chancellor of Justice and parts of the Finance Ministry.
