The Cannonball motorcycle club and the group's branch, Squad 32, have indicated their intention to appeal to Finland's Supreme Court against a decision by a district court to declare the groups to be illegal organisations.
This decision, handed down in June, effectively banned Cannonball from operating, and in August the Eastern Finland Court of Appeal decided not to grant the case leave for continued consideration.
In its original decision, the district court said that both Cannonball and Squad 32 had chains of command, with members expected to follow orders from their superiors. The court also noted that the gangs were organised in a manner that was reminiscent of a military organisation.
Cannonball is the first motorcycle gang in Finland to be abolished by court order.
On average, the Supreme Court can take between four and six months to decide whether to hear an appeal, and the hearing may not take place for another year after that.
