Commemorations for Victims of Bus Disaster During Weekend

Memorial services and other events are being held during the weekend to commemorate the 23 victims of the bus crash in Koningkangas in Central Finland early Friday. All of Finland’s churches will commemorate the victims in their Sunday services.

People have been bringing flowers and candles to the site of the accident all day.

The Finnish Red Cross has set up a hot line for people needing counselling. The number to call in Finland is 020366266, and will operate through the weekend.

Police have now identified all of the bodies of the victims of the disaster.

Many foreign heads of state have expressed their condolences to Finland. President Tarja Halonen has received such messages from Russian President Vladimir Putin, Sweden’s King Carl Gustav, Denmark’s Queen Margarethe, and Estonian President Arnold Rüütel.

In Estonia, flags flew at half mast on Friday in honour of the victims.
