Finland Video Attracts Attention in Portugal

Portugal’s media has been circulating a video for Finland shown at the end of a high-profile conference in the country. The video bulletin, which has also found its way onto YouTube, purports to tell 'what Finns should know about Portugal'.

"Portugalia puhutaan viidellä mantereella" kertoo tietoiskuvideo.

The Lisbon newspaper Correio da Manhã says that the 'Portugalnomics' video was shown by the mayor of the coastal town of Cascais, who was hosting the conference.

The video presents titbits of information about Portugal’s history and society. The video notes, for instance, that Portugal is the only European country never to have won the Eurovision song contest. In the video it is also claimed that 60 percent of mobile phones used by the Portuguese are Nokias, and ends by saying that in the 1940’s the country mounted one of the biggest charity campaigns in its history to aid war-torn Finland.

As of Monday morning it had attracted well over half a million viewers online.

The Correio da Manhã webpages claim that at the conference the video was seen by luminaries such as Nobel Prize winner Mohamed ElBaradei, star US journalist Larry King and former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin.
