Pensions Paid Following Communications Glitch

The majority of people who failed to receive pensions, salaries or benefits following a communications glitch on Wednesday have received their payments. Around 125,000 people did not get their state pension payments and 52,000 others failed to receive benefits from the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) on Wednesday morning.

The bank Osuuspankki says its customers have now been paid. Sampo Bank says all of its customers should receive their money by Wednesday evening.

Some 80,000 payments from the Etera pension firm failed to appear in Sampo and Osuuspankki accounts on Wednesday. Also missing were some 45,000 pension payments from the Eläke-Tapiola company.

The incident is the latest in a series of clearing errors between financial institutions. Problems with payments from Etera and Eläke-Tapiola have occurred for the third consecutive month. Etera says customers should get in touch with their bank if necessary.
