Parliament's First Deputy Speaker Calls for Interpellation

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Seppo Kääriäinen says the opposition Social Democratic Party should quickly call for an interpellation, reports the newspaper Savon Sanomat.

The veteran Centre Party politician says that the discussion and voting arising from an interpellation would show the party's relative strength in Parliament.

Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen made a similar suggestion on Monday.

Kääriäinen, a former defence minister and party secretary, says he is concerned that the Centre Party has ended up in the middle of the storm. He says he suspects that all parties and candidates have received significant campaign support.

He says reforming the campaign finance law would be the best solution. Kääriäinen is also calling for improved transparency on the issue of politicians and campaign financiers. YLE
