Ferries Cancelled and Power Out Due to High Winds

High winds reaching 31 metres per second have prevented lighter ships from travelling the Helsinki-Tallinn ferry route. According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, such strong winds are rarely felt in August.

SuperSeaCat, Nordic Jetline, and Linda Line have cancelled all trips on Tuesday as well as Wednesday morning.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute says high winds are also expected at the end of the week and could affect sea travel.

Meanwhile, Helsinki's Public Works Department warned residents to watch out for falling trees. Several trees were already uprooted in the capital region due to strong winds.

Gale force winds caused several power outages in southern regions.
