Watch: Polar bear cub learns to swim

Summer hasn't been here long, but a polar bear cub born in the Ranua Wildlife Park in Lapland last November has already learned to dog paddle.

The cub is becoming increasingly independent. These days mother Venus can relax on nearby rocks while her baby plays in the water.

"Finland's Knut" has become a national sensation and the zoo is expecting the cuddly creature to bring in some 10,000 additional visitors this summer.

The Ranua Zoo is located in south-central Finnish Lapland, east of Kemi.

The polar bear cub is the first to survive birth in Finland.
