The Mega Event took place in Turku over the weekend of August 3–5, attracting more than 2,000 participants from all over the world and making it the largest geocaching event in the Nordics to date.
The event saw objects concealed in various parts of the Kuppittaa Sports Arena, and attracted visitors from as far afield as Australia and Hawaii.

The American trend has caught on in Finland over the past several years, creating an active community of thousands of geocaching hobbyists.
The popularity of the pastime is due to the fact that anyone can participate.
