About 60 percent of the 37,000 citizens vying for a seat in the municipal elections are male and the average age of the candidates is 48. The party with the youngest demographic is the Pirate Party, which has an average age of 29.
Out of the 37,000 candidates some 9,700 will end up being elected, or about 700 less than the last municipal elections four years ago.
Nearly 140-thousand non-Finnish residents are eligible to vote. Advance voting will take place between the 17th and 23rd of October.
Election day is Sunday the 28th of October.
