The prosecutor sought a life sentence for the shooting incident. The Court ruled in favour of the prosecution, handing a life sentence to the young defendant.

The young man opened fire on random passersby from a rooftop in downtown Hyvinkää one night last May, killing two people and wounding seven others.

Hiltunen's lawyer argued that the killings should be considered manslaughter. The defendant has admitted to the shootings, but has been unable to fully explain them. Mental health evaluators say he understood the consequences of his actions.
