Sonera announces staff reductions

The teleoperator has concluded lay-off talks and will reduce its staff by around 125. Sonera hopes around 80 people will take voluntary pay-offs.

The figures compare with an original estimate that 135 jobs would go. The company hopes that the reorganisation will allow it to unify customer services, orders, administration and billing units.

As part of the changes, some 80 customer service agents will be transferred to the Barona staffing agency. Around 50 of them are located in Kuusamo, with another 30 in Lappeenranta.

Another 170 Sonera jobs could go as part of negotiations on broadband and mobile network staff reductions. The company has so far announced the loss of 216 jobs since December, with just under 1,300 staff remaining in Finland.
