Helsinki police say that they have for the most part been able to piece together a narrative of events preceding a deadly shooting incident at Helsinki’s west harbour Saturday, in which a Finnish man shot and killed his Estonian wife before turning the gun on himself.

According to lead investigator Detective Superintendent Juha Rautaheimo the woman’s adult son was seeing his mother off at the harbour. He provided investigators with a detailed account of the shooting incident. Police also interviewed bystanders at the scene.

Police said that the woman’s Finnish husband had reportedly stalked and threatened her, but that she had not reported the matter to the police.

The 50-year-old Finnish man eventually shot his 46-year-old Estonian wife. When the man did not respond to police orders to surrender his weapon, they shot him in the thigh. However the gunman then shot himself in the upper body. The man was taken to hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
