Helsinki moves up university rankings

Helsinki University is ranked 69th in the world, in a comparison published on Tuesday. It is the only Finnish university to be ranked among the global elite.

Helsinki moved up nine places in the rankings this year, and is now the third-highest ranked Nordic institution in the comparison, which is produced by education company Quacquarelli Symonds. Copenhagen and Lund are ahead of Helsinki, while Uppsala, Oslo and Aarhus trail Finland’s best seat of learning.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology came first in the comparison, with Harvard ranked second and Cambridge University third. British and American institutions dominated the top ten.

The next highest ranked Finnish university was Aalto university in 196th place. Turku came 205th, Oulu was in 253rd position, the University of Eastern Finland was 291st, Jyväskylä came 299th and Tampere University 376th.
