Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has a new director. He is Robin Lardot, who is now the second-in-command at the National Police Board.

The 50-year-old, who has a law degree, began his career as a constable three decades ago. He rose quickly through the ranks, becoming an inspector and then deputy director of the NBI. His current title is Deputy National Police Commissioner.

Lardot will begin a seven-year term as head of the NBI in November. The current bureau’s current director, Rauno Ranta, retires at the end of October after 26 years in the post.

There were 11 applicants to replace him. Lardot's hiring was announced on Thursday by the Council of State.
